Mike den Haan, Board Chair

A planner and fundraiser, Mike den Haan has been managing nonprofits in the health and education sectors for more than 25 years. When friend and fellow Board member, Charles Holmes mentioned that EPI’s board was seeking members with his unique skills in Integrated Communications and Capacity Building, Mike saw an opportunity to align his values with an organization on a broader scale.
Michael den Haan brings over 29 years of executive and board experience with organizations in Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, Central America and Europe. Specializing in fundraising, communications, alumni and community engagement, governance, and leadership coaching, Michael’s values-based approach has served communities working to create new futures in education, healthcare and the environment. Den Haan has served in executive leadership roles with the University of Toronto, University of Waterloo and Simon Fraser University and is the Founder and Principal of MDH & Associates. Michael is also a Director on the Board of Ecology Project International and is a Beedie Luminaries Mentor to university students. Michael earned a Master’s in History from Queen’s University (Kingston) and is a certified fundraising professional (CFRE).
