"Thanks to this experience I found what I love most - Marine Biology. I want to continue to learn and be a part of the change that we need."Snorkeling Experience Reveals Vocation for Young Woman
Citlalli Diaz, a student on our Mexico Island Ecology program, is a quiet young woman, polite and rather shy. She attended a public school in La Paz called CBTIS 230, which is located on a sandy road about a mile from the Sea of Cortez. After visiting Espiritu Santo Island for the first time with EPI, Citlalli was transformed. Through her immersion experience – while snorkeling in the Sea of Cortez – she discovered a personal connection to the rich marine life, which sparked a passion to protect these amazing creatures. Citlalli participated in a Conservation Leadership workshop EPI hosted at the campus in La Paz, and in collaboration with other students she met at the workshop, she spearheaded a battery recycling campaign, involving the creation of informational materials, presentations at local schools, and tabling at community events. She then became an intern at the EPI campus. Soon after, Citlalli started classes at the University of Baja California Sur as a Marine Biology major.
